Go-To-Wine Tuesday

There is nothing I love more than sitting on the deck surrounded by family and friends and watching the sun begin set with a glass of wine in my hand. This past weekend I was fortunate enough to spend some time at my parents’ home on the ocean doing just that. Because I work at Italian Wine Merchants and my family loves to indulge in a good bottle from time to time, I thought that it was only fitting for me to find something special at IWM to bring along for the trip.
I wanted to find something that would not overshadow my mother’s famous barbeque chicken, known to include “everything but the kitchen sink,” but I also wanted something that would leave an impression. After some thought, I decided upon Bovio’s Barbera d’Alba Regiaveja 2003. Known for exhibiting feminine characteristics of earth, flowers, and elegance, Bovio’s Barbera is a wonderful full-bodied wine that is the perfect complement to barbeque flavors and grilled meats, and the perfect complement it was (especially at $30).
The night we shared the wine could not have been more picturesque. The table was prepared beautifully by my mother as always, a true summer feast. As we sat down to enjoy one another’s company we raised our glasses and toasted. The flavors of the grilled barbeque chicken and fresh corn on the cob were only enhanced by the subtle smoke of this special gem, Bovio Barbera.
