Francesco 2014Hands down, Louis Jadot is one of the most iconic estates of Burgundy. Headed by world renowned winemaker Jacques Lardier for more than thirty years, who was responsible for making elevating the quality of wine throughout the region all while crafting phenomenal terroir-driven wines at fair prices, this estate has now entered a new era. Fréderic Barnier now heads the estate, and it is ushering in a new generation of winemaking skills. I’ve chosen one recent wine and one vintage wine, giving Burgundy lovers a view of Jadot’s present and its past.

Louis Jadot Côte de Beaune Rouge 2012 $37.50

This Côte de Beaune is actually made from mostly Premier Cru vineyards, unlike many other Côte de Beaunes wines on the market. This ’12 Rouge is a gorgeous wine that I find myself drinking more times that not. Its clean, pure fruit characters meld perfectly with its silky tannins, giving this wine a very lithe and elegant feel. It really is an effortless drink and you can polish off two bottles off this stuff without even realizing.

Louis Jadot Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 1985 1.5L $825

This wine could not be more different than the bottle above. Even at thirty, this wine is a rock star. Meaty, savory and gamy elements dominate this rustic, wild wine. Pair with some wild mushrooms, rabbit/boar and some roasted root veggies and you will create a very memorable combination.
